About Diego Matamoros
Diego Matamoros is an award-winning actor, director & teacher. He is a founding member of the Soulpepper Theatre Company in Toronto; since the company's inception in 1998, Diego has acted in more than 70 of the productions at Soulpepper. He has also worked in many theatres across Canada and the United States. In 2022, he spent the summer in London at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre where he played Gloucester opposite Kathryn Hunter as King Lear. He is the recipient of numerous Canadian acting awards for both his theatre and television work, including four Dora Mavor Moore awards and a Gemini award for best performance in a mini-series.
As a teacher and director, in 2006 he co-founded and was the first director of the Soulpepper Academy, a two-year paid Masterclass program. Diego has directed and taught at numerous other theatre schools and Canadian universities, including Dalhousie, Randolph Academy, TMU, the George Brown Theatre School, and The National Theatre School. Most recently, he directed the graduating students of Dalhousie University in Halifax in the 2024 production of Three Sisters.
